Tips for Determining What’s Important in Your Life

Life is so busy that we are often juggling many different balls and priorities, rarely have a minute to ourselves and can feel like we are not doing anything very well. We can struggle to find a few minutes to sit and think about what is important to us and what we want to attract in our life. Not only finding the time, but keeping focused attention when we do, can be a challenge!

The below reflective tasks will help you to get clear on your priorities so you can spend your time on those things you enjoy most and are most important to you.

1. Write down a list of what you value – family, health, job, friends, money, travel, hobbies, self care, meditation, sport etc.
2. Now rate these values in order of priority.
3. Reflect on whether you are currently spending your time on your most or least valued things?
4. How can you spend more time on those things you love and value the most? What needs to change? What action do you need to take?
5. If it were your funeral, how would you like to be remembered? What would you like people to say about you?
6. If you did die tomorrow, what do you think people would actually say about you?
7. Is there a difference between what you think others would say and what you would like them to say and if so, what do you need to do differently so the ideal and reality match?
8. Write a letter to yourself in the future (5-10 years max). Be very specific and descriptive about what you would be doing, who is in your life, what would you be feeling and what was going on. This letter now becomes your road map to achieving your dream or ideal future life. What steps or even one thing can you do today towards achieving that dream?
